So far, there's been very little action with this pregnancy. Just your typical visit every 2 weeks or so to the OB to hear the heartbeat on the doppler. We had a consult with the peri about a month ago, and because of my history, they have decided that they want to closely watch my cervix. If you've been following long enough, then you may remember my problems last time with short cervix. Anyways, so today was our first cervical length measurement.
Before I go any further I want to just say that I absolutely L-O-V-E my perinatologist. He and his staff took amazing care of me, Abby and Madison and I truly believe he is the best in the business.
Seriously.
The best. So, anyways, everything was going great at the appointment. The ultrasound tech immediately asked if we were interested in taking a look at the gender. Ummm...that would be a YES. Well...no such luck there. Baby had his/her legs crossed. I mean, literally sitting indian style. It was very cute, but the little stinker wouldn't budge, so we have to wait on that.
So...on with the story. She said my cervix looked great and stepped out of the room to show the doctor the pictures. A minute or so passed and she came back in the room, with doctor following behind her. Not too strange I suppose...last time the doctor always came in after the tech.
Except today was different. Today, the tech says
"doctor would like another look at your cervix".
Me: Ummm...ok...I guess?
So doctor says: "are you bleeding"?
Me: Ummm...no. Why?
Doctor: "Well, I think I see a bloodclot."
Now, at this point all I can think about is bedrest. I had a bloodclot at 10 weeks last time and was put on bedrest...never to come off of it until I delivered. I cannot go on bedrest. Not now. Not this soon. So please, let there not be a bloodclot. So the tech looks at my cervix again with the doctor standing right there and all of the sudden she says:
"wow...it looks totally different now."
Ok, so now I am starting to freak out. My heart is beating a mile a minute. I look at Brian and he is as pale as a ghost. All I keep thinking is, please...not again. We just can't do it again. And it gets better...
The tech says to the doctor: "hold on...she's having a contraction."
A what!?!? A contraction? At 14 weeks? Are you crazy?!? I can't be having a contraction. Not this early. Not at all! I had a classical c-section and contractions are not an option. My uterus could rupture if I have contractions! At this point Brian and I are both just about in freakout mode when the doctor hesitates for a minute, then takes a deep breath and says:"ok. everything looks great. If you don't have any questions I'll see you in 2 weeks."
Me: "Ummm, yeah...I have a question! What the h@#! was that all about? Did you see a bloodclot or not?!"
He proceeded to tell us that no, there is no bloodclot. That it's just typical uterus stuff he was seeing and not to worry.
And so Brian and I, hearts beating fast, sweaty palms, and trying not to think about last summer, left the office, got in the car, and just sat there. Relieved. And thankful that what he thought he saw, he didn't really see.
I think we are forever scarred by the events that took place last summer. In fact...I
know we are.
