It is with broken hearts and great sadness that we update our blog today, but sadly the TTTS has gotten the better of us and taken the life of one of our little girls. Our little Madison's heart stopped beating last Wednesday, at 24 weeks 2 days gestation. Of course this was completed unexpected, as just 12 hours before we learned of her demise we were told she was doing great. The only explanation they can give us is that it was an "acute event", whereby somehow the blood flow to her heart just stopped. We spent the last 6 days in the hospital under observation for infection, and of course with continuous monitoring of Abigail. Luckily there are no signs of infection and Abigail does not appear to be in any distress (although they said that about Madison too), so we are hopeful that the worst is behind us and we can go on to deliver a healthy baby. I had a steriod shot today and will have one again tomorrow in order to help develop her lungs, just in case she needs to or wants to come early. Today, at exactly 25 weeks, she weighed 1 pound 11 ounces. The odds are in our favor that Abigail will be fine. It is sad but true that often the demise of one twin helps the other to thrive. And what we believe is that Madison had to let go in order for her sister have a fighting chance. We can sleep at night knowing that the surgery was the right thing to do and that we have done all that we possibly could in our power to keep our girls safe (the Ambien they gave me in the hospital helps too). Thank you all for the phone calls, flowers and prayers. The support is much needed and appreciated. Please continue to pray for our surviving twin Abigail, as well as for our TTTS Angel, Madison.

Stacie & Brian, Our hearts have been so heavy over the last few days for your family. We have no words to really express our feelings for what you all have had to go through and what you continue to deal with. We pray that God will carry you through these dark days and will bless Abigail with full (or close enough to it) gestation. That He will grant her a healthy life in your arms. I hope that you can find comfort in knowing that Madison will be in heaven looking down and watching over Abigail. That one day you will meet the soul of your sweet girl. All our love and prayers. Our hearts were broken when we received the news of little Madison's passing away. It gives us comfort to know she is with our Lord and that we will see her one day. We can't begin to know how you must feel at this time. We have seen the profound loss in you faces during this week. Only the Lord's love can fill that void in your lives. We are here for you and will continue to pray for you as a couple and for little Abigail. Our Lord is faithful and we know this is in His hands.
With all of our love,
Grandma and Grandpa

We are so, so sorry for the loss of your sweet angel, Madison. We can't even begin to imagine the pain and sadness that you are feeling. You guys have been through so much and have been such fighters. We know that Madison is up in heaven still fighting for her sister and helping to guide Abigail to a healthy birth. We have been praying for your family every night and will continue to pray that, in several weeks from now, you will give birth to a beautiful, healthy baby girl. Please let us know if there is anything we can do.
With love, Nick and Erin

"I have known you in my dreams little one, and there you will forever be loved.
Saying good-bye to what might have been, the hopes and dreams that grew more real every day, brings an added sadness to the depth of pain."

I am so very truly sorry for your loss. I have been following your story from seeing you on the ivf-infertility page and it was heart wrenching to read of Madison's passing. Even though I don't know you personally there is always a special bond with twin mommies.Your family will be in my heart and prayers. Much love and hugs~ Kimberly

Hi Brian and Stacie. It is Auntie Linda here. I have put off saying anything to you two since the sad event of Madison's passing. Just didn't have the right words to try to express our feelings and thoughts. Of course, I have been in touch with Jean to keep updated. I did check the blog a day or so after her passing and saw no comments yet. Think the last time I checked was this last Monday. Anyway, we are glad to know you can write/talk about it now. How brave of Madison to let go to help Abigail. You are all such tough little gals! Hang in there, you have lots of love around you. Auntie Linda and Terry

Hi from the UK
Our computer has been down, we have only just read the sad news. Nothing we say will make it better,
but we are praying and thinking of you all. We hope that little Abigail is a fighter. We will be in touch later, just wanted to say we are thinking of you.
Love, Heather and Steve

Stacie & Brian,

We were so sorry to hear about Madison. We have been praying every day for Abigail to stay strong. I like to think my mom is taking care of Madison! You sure know she would. People have said such nice things and I don't know what to add except that we're sorry and we are keeping all of you in our prayers. (My friend Karen is too.)

Hi Stacie,
I am ML's neighbor, and I just read your whole story. My heart is so burdened for your family, but so grateful that God has given you Abigail. We may never know what we go through trials, but one thing is for sure...God never leaves us there. When your sweet little girl is born you will feel confident in the battle your fought for her life. She will be a living testament of how faithful God is. I will continue to pray for you in the next 10 weeks and pray that He gives you peace the rest of the way.
Love,
Michelle
